How do I prepare my boat and boat trailer or RV trailer for moving?
- Tires: Check the tires. Look for the right air pressure. Air pressure should be located on each tire. If a tire on a trailer is not properly inflated, it can blow while in transport. Look for dry rot. If a tire is old or has been sitting in area for a long time it may have dry rot causing the tire to be unsafe. If the tire has bad dry rot on it, then it is much safer to just replace the tire before having a transporter come out to pick up boat or RV trailer. In any case, it is always good to have a spare tire with the trailer. If a tire goes bad along the way, the driver will put your spare on. If no spare is available, we will buy a tire and put it on. You would have to reimburse the driver for the tire purchased.
- Bearings: Each wheel on a boat or RV trailer will have bearings. If the bearings are not greased, then the bearings may get very hot and cause the bearings to go bad. If that happens, the wheel can come off of the axle. Most bearings have grease fittings where you can pump grease easily into the bearing. Our drivers are trained to look out for that during transport, but preparing it before shipment will reduce any risk.
- Lights: Lights should be on the trailer and working correctly.. If your trailer has no lights, please let us know in advance so we can bring lights that attach to the back of your trailer. If you have no way to check to see if all lights are working, please let us know in advance so we can send a driver out there with lights. We have adapters that can allow us to connect all sorts of wiring harnesses to our truck.
- Boat Covers/Canopy/Shrink Wrap: Please understand that there are variable results transporting shrink-wrapped boast and, while we will make every effort to keep the wrap on, we can not guarantee that the boat wrap will be intact at delivery. Please make sure that all canopies are moved to the down position if at all possible. All windows and roof vents on travel trailers should be closed and locked.
- What are the dimensions of your boat / RV Trailer: We are limited to boats and trailers that are 8’6” wide or under and under 13’6” tall. The maximum length of your boat or RV trailer should be 35 feet or under.
